12 teams - 48 employees - 1 marathon!
The goal: give clean water to 250 people!

On Sunday morning, April 6, 2014, 12 EMC-Teams will anxiously wait for the canon to go off and send them on the journey of exactly 42,195 km along the lake of Zurich - the Zurich Marathon. Each team will consist of 4 EMC employees making it a total of 48 to share this great experience.

Whilst the goals for this race vary from participant to participant they all share a common one: to raise awareness and money to solve the global water crisis. Whilst they will be handed cold, clean drinking water every 3,5 km of the run 800’000’000 people around the world do not have access to this life depending resource. As a matter of fact, they often have to walk twice that distance to get muddy, bacteria infected water that makes them sick and kills 30’000 people every week - 90% children under the age of 5!

In other words: every 21 seconds a child under the age of 5 dies because of lack of clean drinking water!

But there are many different and effective solutions that can save many lives. As little as US$ 65 buys a biosand filter for a family in Cambodia and gives them clean water for as long as 15 years. Or four women in Africa - often still girls - will get clean water from a newly dug well nearby and save hundreds of hours every month for getting dirty water from far away. Time lost for school, tending the family or even start a small business.
