Why charity: water racing is fundraising for clean water

15 Runners. 26.2 Miles. One mission to bring clean water to people around the world.

Access to clean, safe water opens a multitude of opportunities for women, children, and all in underprivileged communities. Because of charity : water's projects, the effort and time once spent walking daily to get water, is now available for schooling, learning a trade, starting a business, etc. Not only are these individuals able to expand their minds and redirect their energy and efforts, their overall health benefits from safe, drinking-water.

100% of our campaign funds will be sent to Zimbabwe to build THREE wells; which supports 9,000 people annually with clean drinking water.

Zimbabwe, a landlocked Southern African nation, faces severe water and sanitation challenges following years of economic crisis, political turmoil, and recurring droughts. Approximately 46% of its rural population lacks basic water access, and over 68% lack basic sanitation. Ranked 153rd out of 193 countries on the 2025 Human Development Index, Zimbabwe also has 49.2% of its population living on less than $3 a day.

We believe in the good of humanity, the power and will within each of us to help support what is right, and the need to make sure everyone in the world has a basic and safe resource: water. We believe that together is better and that unity makes us stronger. We are part of a team now, and recognize the ones that have come before us; they inspire us to work hard to reach our goal, physically and charitably, and show us the incremental change that they made and that we too, can make. All these parts are part of a bigger story - the charity : water story and dream - our piece will be woven (pun intended) into it forever and we are proud to be here.

Please review the mission and feel free to reach out to us with any questions.

Projects typically take about 18 months to complete. We anticipate a 2028 completion for our wells.

Sydney, Susan, and I wholeheartedly want to support charity: water's mission: to make clean water available & accessible to everyone in the world. Thank you for helping us get there!!

We cannot wait to share it with you!

Sincerely,

Rachel, Sydney, and Susan

Rachel, Sydney & pinned an update

Good Morning,

We have officially reached Race-Week! A tremendous amount of effort, miles, sweat, tears, and supportive-friendship have gone towards reaching this point.

Here is some info on our current standing leading up to this weekend's adventure:

- Sydney has been gracefully suffering through a painful strained and tight hip area. She has had to cool-down on the running for the past 3 weeks to try to heal; but her patience has proven to be worthwhile. Her check up last week with PT was very promising. With some wonderful taping techniques and strict stretching/warmup protocols, she will likely be able to get through this run! I cannot commend her attitude and commitment to finishing enough. She is an example of how optimism + a fighting spirit can carry us so far!

- Susan reached the 20 miles mark this month!! What an accomplishment! Her joints and knees are feeling it. She is taking care of her body and ready to get this 'chapter' in the books! She gracefully managed all this with an expedited training schedule (10 weeks only), 3 kids, travel, and Dallas heat. I am so proud of and grateful for her.
- Lastly, I have recovered from my calf injury and got myself back into action. I promised to go back in with a renewed mindset - to slow down AND enjoy it! Through injury, I realized that I was chasing speed too much and not appreciating the experience (or enjoying it much). I've returned with renewed purpose and reached new distances (20 mi). My body is feeling all these miles and my mind is ready and set for this lifetime experience.

It's been an incredible journey of learning about ourselves, growing deeper friendships, and learning what and how to support one another! We had no idea how this experience would affect us.... but it has.... and I truly believe we're coming out of this with a purpose to be proud of and a wonderful perspective on life. We have, first-hand, witnessed what can be achieved together through hard work, teamwork, and friendship and the lasting impact we can make together in this world. We will have raised enough to build 3 wells in Zimbabwe and positively affected the lives of thousands there.

We keep reminding ourselves - that the experience and growth that's come from this journey - is something to be proud of. It's not the race that will give us what we've learned - its this journey!

With Love,

Rachel, Sydney, & Rachel
